Benefits for CSA Members:

  • Taste! CSA members enjoy the tasty benefits of freshly picked, in-season vegetables. There is no substitute for freshness!
  • Put a face on your food! Knowing who grew your food and how it was grown takes eating vegetables to a whole new level.
  • Discover new flavours! Some of the vegetables you see may be new to you. Being involved with a CSA will expose you to new things as well as new ways of cooking familiar vegetables.

Benefits for the Community:

  • Support for local economy: By purchasing a CSA share, you are committing your food dollars to our local agricultural sector.
  • Support for local farms: It is tough for local farmers to compete with the convenience of a supermarket. By joining a CSA you can help to reverse the trend.
  • Reduced 'food miles': The average ingredient on North America's dinner plate is traveling 1500 kilometers. By purchasing a CSA share, you will be reducing the impact of "food miles", such as greenhouse gas emissions

What is Community Shared Agriculture

Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) is a system of growing and distributing food in a way that connects farmers and those who consume their food. This will equate to 20 weeks of fresh vegetables from the end of May until the end of October.

CSA Members pay for a 'share' of a farm's seasonal produce before the growing season begins. The consumers' commitment and early payment helps the farmer to purchase seeds, fertilizer and other inputs when cash is tight. It also means less time spent marketing vegetables and more time nurturing them - like the farmer was meant to do!

What can CSA members expect to receive?

  • Fresh, in-season, organically grown produce for a family of four during the harvest season.
  • Shares prepared and available for pick-up in a convenient location.
  • A direct relationship with the farmer who grows your food.
  • A fair price based on a well thought out budget.
  • Priority will be given to CSA Customers.
